Glasgow 2014
Glasgow 2014 will be the XXth Commonwealth Games bringing 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 Commonwealth Games Associations to 1 host city. 17 sports over 11 days of competition between 23 July and 3 August 2014.
Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Wrestling will take place in Hall 3 at the SECC and feature both Greco-Roman and Freestyle disciplines. Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre [SECC] Precinct The SECC will serve as the largest precinct venue for the Games. It will host several sports, including Gymnastics, Judo, Netball, Wrestling and Weightlifting/Powerlifting as well as the venues of the International Broadcast Centre and the Main Press Centre.
The SECC campus, which already boasts large-scale SECC Exhibition Halls and the famous Clyde Auditorium [known as the ‘ Armadillo’ due to its cascading, shell like shape] will also see the addition of the new Scottish National Arena. Opened in 1985, the venue is nestled on the banks of the River Clyde and is one of Scotland’s most visited venues. The development of the SECC is a key part of Glasgow’s plans for the regeneration of the Clyde Riverside.
The Clyde Auditorium, opened in 1997, will showcase the Weightlifting/Powerlifting competitions, while the main exhibition halls of the SECC will host Judo, Netball (Preliminaries) and Wrestling. The Halls will also serve as a media hub for broadcasters and press.
